Daily semaglutide tablet for diabetes
Ozempic now comes as a tablet as well as a weekly shot. The tablets treat type 2 diabetes in adults, come in new strengths and need a careful morning routine.
Free to book. You pay only if you go ahead with treatment.
If injections have kept you from a GLP-1 medicine, a licensed U.S. clinician can tell you whether the daily Ozempic tablet suits your type 2 diabetes.
Already on Rybelsus or the Ozempic injection? Your clinician times the change using the label's dose equivalents, so you don't guess.
You get clear instructions for taking the tablet on an empty stomach with a little water and waiting 30 minutes before food or other pills.
Your clinician checks your glucose control and side effects over time and adjusts other diabetes medicines when needed.
Pick phone or video. Have your recent A1C and a list of your morning medicines ready.
A licensed U.S. clinician spends 5–10 minutes reviewing your diabetes care and decides whether the Ozempic pill is appropriate.
If prescribed, a licensed U.S. pharmacy fills your tablets. The first 30 days use a starter strength that helps your stomach adjust.
After 30 days you step up to 4 mg. From day 61 your clinician decides whether to stay at 4 mg or raise to 9 mg.
Follow-up looks at glucose readings, side effects and whether other diabetes medicines need adjusting.
A daily tablet avoids injections while using the same medicine as the Ozempic shot.
If you take Rybelsus 7 mg or 14 mg, your clinician can move you to the matching Ozempic tablet strength.
The tablets are approved to reduce major cardiovascular events in adults with type 2 diabetes at high risk.

For years the only oral semaglutide for diabetes was Rybelsus. In 2026, Novo Nordisk began offering a reformulated version of that tablet in the U.S. under the Ozempic name, so the brand people already associate with diabetes care now covers both a weekly injection and a daily pill. Ozempic tablets and Rybelsus appear together on one FDA-approved label.
The new tablets come in 1.5 mg, 4 mg and 9 mg strengths, compared with 3, 7 and 14 mg for Rybelsus. The label pairs Ozempic 4 mg and 9 mg with Rybelsus 7 mg and 14 mg as matching maintenance doses, so the numbers are lower even though they are used the same way. Because of that, the two products are not interchangeable milligram for milligram.
Ozempic tablets are approved for adults with type 2 diabetes to improve blood sugar control alongside diet and exercise, and to lower the risk of heart attack, stroke and cardiovascular death in adults with type 2 diabetes at high cardiovascular risk. They are not approved for weight loss without diabetes.
FDA labeling gives specific equivalents for people already on oral or injectable semaglutide. Do not switch on your own. Your clinician times the change.
Take one tablet in the morning on an empty stomach with up to 4 ounces of plain water. Swallow it whole without splitting, crushing or chewing it. Then hold off on food, other drinks and other oral medicines for at least 30 minutes.
Never take more than one tablet a day. If you miss a dose, skip it and take your usual tablet the next morning.
Both forms of Ozempic contain semaglutide and both are approved for adults with type 2 diabetes. The weekly injection has a wider set of approvals, including kidney protection in chronic kidney disease, and frees you from any daily routine. The tablet avoids needles and refrigeration but must be taken every morning on an empty stomach, with a 30-minute wait before food, drinks or other pills.
If you already take several morning medicines, or your mornings are unpredictable, the injection may be simpler. If needles are the main reason you have put off a GLP-1 medicine, the tablet may be the easier start. Your clinician can help you weigh it up.
The tablets carry the same boxed warning as other semaglutide products about thyroid C-cell tumors seen in rodents. Several diabetes-specific points also apply.

Book a free consultationYes. In 2026, oral semaglutide for type 2 diabetes began to be offered in the U.S. under the Ozempic name, alongside the weekly Ozempic injection. Both forms are approved for adults with type 2 diabetes.
Both contain oral semaglutide and share an FDA label. Ozempic tablets use a newer formulation with lower strengths, 1.5, 4 and 9 mg, compared with Rybelsus at 3, 7 and 14 mg. They are not substitutable milligram for milligram.
The label lists Ozempic tablets 9 mg as the equivalent of Rybelsus 14 mg, and 4 mg as the equivalent of Rybelsus 7 mg. Your clinician confirms the switch and the timing.
It is not approved for weight loss without type 2 diabetes. For weight management, the Wegovy pill is the oral semaglutide approved for that purpose, and your clinician can discuss whether it fits.
The 1.5 mg strength is meant to let your stomach get used to the medicine. The label notes it does not meaningfully lower blood sugar on its own, so glucose improvement usually starts after you move to 4 mg.
Possibly. The label covers switching from the 0.5 mg weekly injection to 4 mg or 9 mg tablets one week after the last shot. Other doses need an individual plan from your clinician.
Ozempic tablets are approved to reduce the risk of heart attack, stroke and cardiovascular death in adults with type 2 diabetes at high cardiovascular risk.
Much less medicine is likely to be absorbed, so it may not work well. Take it on waking with a small sip of water, then wait at least 30 minutes.
No. Take the Ozempic tablet first and wait at least 30 minutes before any other oral medicine. Your clinician may also recheck thyroid levels, since oral semaglutide can raise levothyroxine exposure.
On its own it seldom does. The risk rises if you also use insulin or a sulfonylurea, so your clinician may lower those doses and tell you what readings to watch for.
Coverage for type 2 diabetes varies by plan and may need prior authorization. You can use our service without insurance. Program pricing starts from $149/mo, and brand medication may cost extra.
