Semaglutide tablet for weight loss
The Wegovy pill is the first semaglutide tablet approved for weight management. It skips the needle but asks for a precise morning routine, which your clinician walks you through.
Free to book. You pay only if you go ahead with treatment.
The Wegovy pill is FDA-approved oral semaglutide for weight loss in adults, the same active ingredient as the pen without weekly injections.
Your clinician explains how to take it: on waking, with up to 4 ounces of plain water, then a 30-minute wait before food or other pills.
Your morning medicines are reviewed for timing conflicts, including levothyroxine, since the tablet can raise levels of some oral drugs.
You get a written 30-day step-up schedule and follow-up at each strength change, plus help with side effects and missed doses.
Choose phone or video and list your current medicines, especially anything you take first thing in the morning.
A licensed U.S. clinician spends 5–10 minutes on your history and decides whether the Wegovy pill is appropriate.
If prescribed, a licensed U.S. pharmacy fills your starter tablets and you begin the morning routine.
Most people move from 1.5 mg to 4 mg, then 9 mg, then the 25 mg maintenance dose from about day 91, with check-ins at each step.
Adults with obesity are the main group the tablet is approved for, with or without other health conditions.
Related conditions include high blood pressure, type 2 diabetes, high cholesterol and sleep apnea.
A daily tablet can make starting a GLP-1 medicine feel more manageable.
You need a 30-minute window after the tablet before food, coffee or other pills.
Teens, anyone who is pregnant or breastfeeding and anyone with medullary thyroid cancer (yours or a family member's) or MEN 2.

The FDA approved Wegovy tablets on December 22, 2025. The tablet contains semaglutide, the same ingredient as the Wegovy injection, combined with an absorption enhancer so it can pass through the stomach lining. It is approved, alongside a reduced-calorie diet and more activity, to reduce excess body weight and keep it off in adults with obesity, or with overweight plus at least one weight-related condition.
Like the injection, the tablet is also approved to lower the risk of heart attack, stroke and cardiovascular death in adults with established heart disease and obesity or overweight. Unlike the injection, it is approved for adults only, and it is not part of the liver disease approval.
Earlier semaglutide tablets, sold as Rybelsus and now Ozempic tablets, are approved for type 2 diabetes. The Wegovy pill is the version intended for weight management, with a higher 25 mg maintenance dose.

FDA labeling sets out four strengths taken in 30-day blocks. Your clinician may keep you on a step longer if side effects are bothering you.
Take one tablet as soon as you wake, on an empty stomach, with up to 4 ounces of plain water and no other drink. Swallow it whole. Then wait at least 30 minutes before you eat, drink anything else or take other tablets.
Getting this right matters more than the exact clock time. A simple habit is to keep the tablet and a small glass by your bed, take it on waking, then shower and dress before breakfast.
Both are Wegovy and both carry the weight and heart-risk approvals for adults. The pen means one injection a week and no daily timing rules. The pill means no needles but a strict routine every single morning. People who travel often, dislike needles or have no fridge space often lean toward the pill; people with busy, unpredictable mornings often prefer the pen.
Wegovy tablets carry the same boxed warning as the injection about thyroid C-cell tumors observed in rodents. A few points apply specifically to the tablet.

They all contain semaglutide, but Rybelsus and Ozempic tablets are approved for type 2 diabetes and stop at lower doses. The Wegovy pill is approved for weight management and goes up to 25 mg. They cannot be swapped milligram for milligram.
The label calls for taking it in the morning on an empty stomach. Taking it later in the day, after you have eaten, may sharply reduce how much is absorbed.
Less medicine is likely to be absorbed that day. Do not take a second tablet; just get back on your routine the next morning. If it happens often, talk with your clinician about whether the pen suits you better.
Skip the missed tablet and take your usual dose the next morning. Never double up.
No. The tablet is approved for adults only. The Wegovy injection is the version approved for teens 12 and older.
Wegovy tablets are approved to reduce the risk of heart attack, stroke and cardiovascular death in adults with established heart disease and obesity or overweight, as the injection is.
It may be possible, but there is no simple one-to-one swap between weekly and daily doses. Your clinician decides the timing and starting strength based on your current dose and how you have tolerated it.
Often yes, but timing needs planning. Take the Wegovy tablet first, wait at least 30 minutes, then take your other pills. Your clinician may recheck your thyroid levels after you start, since oral semaglutide can increase levothyroxine exposure.
Not necessarily. Nausea, diarrhea and other stomach effects are common with both, especially after dose increases. Smaller meals and avoiding greasy food help with either form.
Yes. The tablet is approved for use with a reduced-calorie diet and more physical activity, not instead of them. Many people find smaller, protein-forward meals easier once appetite drops, and that also helps with nausea.
Breastfeeding is not recommended while taking Wegovy tablets. Tell your clinician if you are nursing so they can suggest a safer plan.
Keep them in the original container, closed tightly, at room temperature and away from moisture. Do not move them into a weekly pill organizer unless your pharmacist says it is fine.
Program pricing starts at $149/mo. Brand medication may cost extra depending on how it is filled, and your clinician confirms the total before prescribing.
