Mississippi service dog laws
Mississippi's service animal law is the Mississippi Support Animal Act, Miss. Code 43-6-151 to 43-6-155. It grants public access to people who are blind, hearing impaired or mobility impaired and to armed services veterans with PTSD, and it extends the same access to trainers. For civilians with psychiatric disabilities, the ADA is what secures access with a trained psychiatric service dog.
- Miss. Code 43-6-155 names veterans diagnosed with PTSD among the people entitled to bring a trained support animal into public places.
- Support animal trainers, including volunteers working with a professional, have the same access with animals in training as handlers do.
- The Act limits support animals to dogs and miniature horses and excludes animals considered pets.
- Businesses may not charge a fee for a support animal, and the animal may not occupy a seat on a public conveyance.
