Missouri service dog laws
In Missouri, RSMo 209.150 gives people with disabilities the right to bring a specially trained service dog into public places without an extra charge, and RSMo 209.152 lets trainers bring dogs they are training. The same 2020 law that addressed assistance animals also penalizes anyone who fakes a disability or dresses up a pet as a service dog.
- RSMo 209.152 lets a trainer from a recognized training center bring a guide, hearing or service dog in training into public places, capped at what the ADA allows.
- Putting a service vest or harness on a dog that has not been trained for disability-related tasks is misrepresentation under RSMo 209.204.
- Handlers do not pay extra for the dog but are responsible for any damage it causes to the premises.
- Businesses can display a state placard saying service dogs are welcome and that misrepresentation violates Missouri law.
