Vermont service dog laws
Under 9 V.S.A. 4502, a Vermont place of public accommodation can't keep out a person with a disability who has a service animal with them. The ADA covers the same ground nationally, and Vermont's statute adds its own touches, including protection for people who are in the middle of training an animal to become a service animal.
- Section 4502(b) protects an individual who is training an animal to work for a person with a disability, not just the handler.
- Police officers, firefighters, and search and rescue teams accompanied by a service dog have their own coverage in 4502(k).
- A business may still exclude a person who poses a direct threat to others, under 4502(h).
